Trump comes out full force with racist and xenophobic tweets.
What the GOP is doing by not just refusing to condemn Trump's Sunday racist and xenophobic tweets, but more actively defending or extending them is all the evidence anyone needs that Republicans are much more concerned about "owning the libs" and exercising their own form of perceived "revenge" for the Obama years than they are about even the most basic of American values. The disgusting exercise of power is really something to behold. And the contrast to the Reagan years (whatever his flaws, it's nearly impossible to imagine him sharing the tweeted sentiments) is also worth noting.
That Justin Amash was both quick and strong in his willingness to condemn shows exactly why he had to get out, and what it looks like to actually care about real principles and values.
